Robert Coello - Hawaii
This time we drop in on Robert Coello who lives and works in Hawaii. His business is called Art Of Women and he has photographed and published a number of
stunning calendars. Robert got started in photography back in 1989 and says he has learned the craft mainly through trial and error with no formal studies or schooling.
Robert says he prefers
location work to studio simply because he likes being outdoors. His favourite times to shoot are early morning and late afternoon for colour work and all day for black & white. He works mainly in 35mm
because of the speed and flexibility and his favourite film stocks are Fuji Velvia for colour and for black & white he prefers Kodak 3200 T-Max and Ilford 50 ASA. He does some developing and printing of his own
using an Omega enlarger for both colour and b/w. Robert says he works both with flash-fill and reflected fill. "It is simply a question of resources. If I have the luxury of an
assistant, I prefer reflected natural light."
As far as equipment goes, Robert relies on his Nikon F4 and swaps between the following lenses; a 300 mm 2.8; a 80-200 mm 2.8 zoom; a 24 mm wide angle and a 55
mm. His flash unit is a Nikon SB-24. Other bits of equipment include a few Gitzo tripods.
